Structural Features
- Hole Design Hole-type worm hobs have a central hole, which is mounted on a hobbing machine via a mandrel to achieve tool positioning and rotational drive. This mounting method ensures the stability and accuracy of the hob during processing.
- Shaft Table as Correction Baseline The diameter of the shaft tables at both ends serves as the process correction baseline. The shaft table length is typically 10mm-15mm, with an equal diameter tolerance of 0.003mm, surface roughness Ra of 0.8μm, and a circular runout of 0.005mm for the common axis. This provides a calibration basis for correcting the parallelism of the hob axis to the worktable surface, measuring the installation center height, and inspecting the radial circular runout after installation.
Working Principle
During operation, the hob acts like a helical gear with a large helix angle. It spatially meshes with the worm blank as a pair of helical gears, rotating at a fixed speed ratio. The tooth profile of the worm is enveloped by the successively cutting adjacent teeth of the hob.
